Under the
supervision of Dr. Inge DiBella, I learned how to use digitial audio/visual
equipment and editing software in order to create video clips and short
films for use in the classroom. |

A brief
history of TACL: |
Teaching
Assistants and Computer-Aided Learning, TACL,
is a program designed to help the TAs in the German Department at UGA
become more knowledgeable about integrating technology in their own teaching.
The program was implemented in the Spring of 2001 by Dr. Inge DiBella.
|
The original
TACL group consisted of four TAs, Nina Augustin, Antje Krüger, Anca
Luca and Heike Polster. All four TAs, and Dr. DiBella, attended a national
symposium on computer-assisted language technology (CALICO) at the University
of Central Florida, Orlando, FL from March 15-1, 2001 in order to present
their projects. The project was entitled, "Preparing Tomorrow’s
Language Teachers to Use Technology: Case Study of a Grassroots Initiative"
and it was very well received. |
|
In the spring
of 2002, a second phase of TACL was implemented. The participants in the
second phase of TACL training were Nina Augustin and Heike Polster. The
final project was presented at CALICO on March 30, 2002 in Davis, CA.
The presentation, entitled "Advanced Technology Training for Teaching
Assistants: Phase II of a Training Program Developed at the University
of Georgia" addressed the effective application of technological
and pedagogical skills to original audio/visual productions. The presentation
demonstrated how the use of higher-end instructional technologies, e.g.,
web activities and on-line grammar exercises, considerably strengthens
the pedagogical expertise of TAs as they produced high quality learning
modules for enhanced student learning. The presentation also included
guidelines for offering specialized and advanced technology training to
TAs in FL departments.
